Kasigau Wildlife Conservancy represents a remarkable transformation – from a traditional ranching system into a modern, community-led conservation landscape.
Established in 1971 as Kasigau Ranch, the area gradually evolved as environmental awareness and conservation needs grew.
By 2010, forest protection and carbon initiatives had begun shaping a new direction.
In 2014, structured conservation programmes were introduced, including the recruitment of ranger teams to safeguard wildlife and forests.
A major milestone came in 2018 when conservation land use was formally adopted through a community decision at the Annual General Meeting. This marked a shift toward integrated land management.
By 2020, structured planning processes were underway, leading to the development of land use and conservancy management plans.
In 2021, Kasigau was officially gazetted as a wildlife conservancy and registered as a non-profit organization—solidifying its role as a recognized conservation entity in Kenya.
Today, Kasigau stands as a working example of how communities can lead conservation while building sustainable livelihoods.
